Welcome to Swarthmore! Our independent care home in Gerrards Cross has a great reputation and a real family feel, and we’d love to show you around.
We focus on what matters most to our residents, compassionate and well-trained staff who provide high-quality residential, respite and end-of-life care – something we have done for more than 70 years.
You’ll find our characterful home in a peaceful spot, complete with a warm atmosphere and stunning accessible sensory garden that has been designed with the seasons in mind. Just a short walk from the town centre with its shops, services, cafes and restaurants, our home is ideal for those living here and visiting our residential care home.
As a care home built on the Quaker values committed to working for equality and peace, Swarthmore delivers care of the highest quality so that residents and their families can have complete peace of mind.
Claire Allsopp, Home Manager
Claire leads the team at Swarthmore; she has worked in care since 1994 and joined our home in 2013. Claire’s a Level 5 Registered Manager with Level 3 Housing Support and a BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care – she’s also a qualified assessor for Health and Social Care and completed a Train the Trainer course on Moving and Handling. Claire has three children, who are regular visitors to the home, and enjoys family visits to Cornwall.
Malcolm Barnett, Chairman
Malcolm has been a Trustee of Swarthmore Care Home since August 2016, taking over as Chairman of Trustees in September 2019. As Chairman, he convenes bi-monthly meetings of the Committee of Management who oversee the running of the home and who are responsible for the strategic direction of Swarthmore. Malcolm is a retired architect, spending much of his professional life designing healthcare buildings, and is a member of Henley Quaker Meeting.
Agata Met, Deputy Manager
Agata’s career in care started back in 2007 as a care assistant – having completed her NVQ 2 and 3, Level 5 Diploma and many other relevant courses, she’s now our Deputy Manager. With a person-centred approach in leadership and a passion for improving quality of life for elderly people, Agata enjoys supporting the entire team to bring the best out of everyone and improve job satisfaction. When not here in our home, you’ll probably find Agata up a mountain with her dog.
Tracey Dovell, Office Manager
Tracey has a wealth of experience working in the care and charity sectors as well as the NHS, and she has a real passion to make a difference in people’s lives. With knowledge of HR, recruitment, training, finance and databases, Tracey’s skills are invaluable at Swarthmore. She enjoys cooking at home – and volunteers on a biannual cooking course with bereaved adults in a Hertfordshire hospice – and getting out for walks in the countryside.
Ann Marie Coulter, Activities Co-ordinator
Ann Marie has worked in care since 1991 – first as a care assistant and then as a senior – and has been at Swarthmore since 2013. Ann Marie has undergone Activity Training from the Daily Sparkle and Dementia UK and has an NVQ 3 in Social Care. She organises a wide range of activities for residents, ranging from one-to-one sessions and group settings to outings and community get-togethers. You may spot Ann Marie nearby with her grandchildren when she’s not busy organising activities!
Sally Warminger, Sales Manager
When you visit Swarthmore, Sally is probably the first person you’ll meet. Sally’s here to ensure that making Swarthmore a home for you, a friend or family member is as smooth as possible for everyone involved, and she’s here to help you and your loved ones every step of the way. Sally lives locally, so you may spot her out and about walking her Springer Spaniel!

Our commitment to continuous improvement addresses recommendations from the CQC. We would like to reassure our residents, both existing and prospective, families and friends, that changes are underway in response to the latest CQC report.
“My Grandmother received fantastic care during her 2-week respite stay. The staff are very professional and extremely friendly. I would definitely recommend Swarthmore for anyone thinking about respite/long term care.”
