Christmas Campaign - #heartsforhomes #heartsforschools

10th December

A campaign was inspired by Gee Cross Holy Trinity School and has become a National Campaign. This Christmas time, we would like to help share some joy following what has been a very difficult year for many.

This campaign was inspired by Katrina Cole and the children at Gee Cross Holy Trinity School following one of the news stories during lockdown – ‘Should visits to care homes be allowed’? Year 2 children were inspired to reach out to the local community after discussions were held between the pupils and their teacher. Katrina contacted a local care home and organised a safe visit to deliver heart-warming messages to the residents. This trip was very emotional for everyone involved and great lessons have been learnt by many from reading the story and being involved.  To read the story in full click here

Swarthmore received the information about getting involved in the campaign, so we contacted a local school, St Marys Girls School in Gerrards Cross. We were naturally delighted when they said ‘yes’.

On Wednesday 9th December, teachers and pupils took a short walk to Swarthmore Care Home and delivered amazing artwork which contained lots of warm wishes. The residents sat in the dining room, peering through the windows, waiting in suspense for the girls and teachers to arrive. As they approached the dining room window, we saw smiling faces and waving hands appearing in the distance. The arrival of new faces brought delight, happiness, and tears of joy. The residents were amazed that these girls took the time to come and wish everyone a ‘Merry Christmas’.  The girls performed a dance and sang ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ which was wonderful and very much appreciated by all our residents and staff at Swarthmore.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Head of St Mary’s Girls School and Ann Marie, our Activities Co-ordinator, for arranging this special moment.

During times of National Crisis its amazing to see the support from local communities and how we all adjust in times of need.

Merry Christmas to Everyone from Swarthmore Residential Care Home
