Your time

There’s nowhere else quite like our home. It’s warm and welcoming, peaceful and comfortable, and you can feel that sense of family from the moment you arrive.

Quaker values lie at the heart of our home: simplicity, peace, integrity, community and equality. We believe that these values resonate with people of all faiths, ages and backgrounds, which is why our home is such a wonderful place.

Events and activities

At Swarthmore, we have a dedicated activities team whose role is to put on a wide variety of sessions on a daily basis.

Activities range from poetry sessions or pet therapy to Zumba or musical performances! We have Film Friday, Pantomimes, art classes and visiting farm animals…the list goes on. And we always welcome suggestions for new ideas.

Residents enjoy regular trips, which includes our annual Thames boat trip, beautiful gardens and more.

We have a wonderful Chef at Swarthmore.

All meals are freshly prepared daily and are served in our light, spacious dining room. We pause for a moment of silence in line with Quaker practice. Weekly menus are displayed in advance in our dining area. Dietary requirements are catered for.

Residents can choose to eat in their rooms if they wish.

Breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and supper are all served. Snacks are also available throughout the day.

Our glorious garden

Our stunning garden provides year-round interest, having been designed for the seasons and for the senses. There is always something to see, touch and smell, and our gardener does a fantastic job of keeping it looking great throughout the year.

Residents are more than welcome to get involved with the gardening too if they enjoy getting green-fingered.

The lounge and quiet room

The heart of our home is the light and airy dual-aspect lounge offering views out onto our mature gardens. With luxurious furnishings and tasteful décor, it’s a wonderful place to spend a few hours with visiting family members or to have a cup of tea with fellow residents. We also hold all sorts of events in the lounge, including movie afternoons – complete with popcorn, of course – and even dance classes!

Our quiet room has a wide selection of books, where residents can enjoy some time to themselves. With double patio doors leading out into the garden and very comfortable armchairs, this is a lovely bright room that feels incredibly homely, and it’s also where we hold our Quaker meetings.
